When can my child start behind-the-wheel lessons?

A student can begin behind-the-wheel lessons once they are at least 15 years old, have taken or are taking the classroom portion of driver education, and have a valid Wisconsin instruction permit. The first lesson must be scheduled within the first 60 days after receiving the permit.

When does the online course start?

Our online classroom course is self-paced, so students can begin on the same day they enroll. Wisconsin rules limit students to a maximum of 2 hours of online coursework per day, and the course must be completed within the required completion period.

How do adults get started with private driving lessons?

Adults can register for private driving lessons by calling our office at (414) 447-0202 or completing the online registration form on our adult driving lessons page. Once enrolled, we help schedule the first lesson based on the student’s needs and availability.

Teens can enroll in one of our teen driver education programs by calling (414) 447-0202 during office hours or by enrolling online. Adult students can get started on our private adult driving lessons page and we will help schedule the first lesson.

The Wisconsin Driver Education Grant can cover 100% of tuition for eligible teens. In general, students must be Wisconsin residents, usually between ages 14½ and 19, have never held a driver’s license, and qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch. Learn more on our grant information page.
